I hope we get another trilogy of awesome games with cool spinoffs as a side dish. Cheers for RE's new age!
Oh, and EQ, your choice. One of these two RE7 threads you made is gonna be stickied to the top of Main Series Discussion because we need to replace that old RE7 Discussion that was way before the game was even a thought in anyone's head. I'm leaning towards the "speculation thread" but this time before just moving something I'm gonna ask Your own fault for making good discussion threads.

So how do you guys feel about this pseudo paranormal/psychopath approach they're taking? Do you think this will tie in at all to the universe?

It takes place within the main canon so they at least should. Plus, if they use the same idea they had for RE4 before the redo the "ghosts" might not even be ghosts at all.

Who cares, P.T. is dead, Kojima is working with Norman Reedus on a new psychological horror game and the demo for this was flipping awesome. Video on that soon.

All I can say is, the Trailer had Detective Detective's investigating Clive Barker's Boo! Haunted House while also including snippets of people in photographs that appear oddly Outbreak-inspired and a random-ass chick in a wheelchair.
Also, wood axe. We still going to have enemies with weapons, or will it be deeper than that? Will this story still maintain the Resident Evil factor required to be Resident Evil? If there isn't any mention of Zombie, Undead, BOW, Umbrella, Bio-Weapon(s), Pharmaceuticals, Companies, or at least parasites...
They may as well call it The Evil Within 2.

I would say sticky this one. More relevant to what's happening now. Also feel free to merge my demo gameplay/review here if you want. I figured it would be good to give the demo it's own thread for discussion solely on that, but i don't want to make a mess.

Yes, its a detective story where you are thrown into a creepy environment trying to unravel the mystery of what is going on around you - exactly like the very first game.
There is a photograph of a helicopter with the Umbrella logo on the side.
When you complete the demo it says The Family will be expecting you in 2017.
First person controversy aside, I for one am stocked we are getting a small, more compact setting (plantation farm) and are not stuck in yet another pointless bioterrorism situation. They are obviously going for more realistic, psychological horror which is exactly what I have been banging on about for the last week which hopefully means no more ridiculously oversized enemies with impossible mutations and abilities.

I think the Beginning Hour deserves its own thread, since I have a feeling it's more of a prequel entry than a piece of the finished game.

That's because Capcom has hired people who worked on P.T. Such as production designer Jordan Amaro. They're basically saying "Screw you Konami, we'll do it ourselves! ". And if you've seen Kojima's new game, he is too!.

Unlike the first game, this is a big house, not a mansion. It'd be difficult to have RE-esque gameplay in such confinement unless Capcom expands their scope.

I just watched an interview on Twitch with two of RE7's developers. Most of it didn't reveal anything interesting, but they did say that it's not supernatural and that it'll make sense within the universe.
They also said that the game will not entirely take place in the house, that there will not be any quick time events, and that it uses a custom game engine.
The rest of it was just "we thought first person/vr/adding a new character/whatever else was a good idea" and a bunch of "we don't want to give away too much information yet".

SPOT ON! Now that iv'e had some sleep and iv'e not been up near 24 hours and my brain is clear of all the coverage (seriously guys, i never grinded this hard on my channel in my life lol) i can see that A. This isn't a prequel, it clearly says it's 2017 on the footage and i can also see that this was a prequel to the actual events that will transpire, these were a bunch of nobodies who got caught up in some horrific shit.
I'm guessing our main protagonist will be a detective who is assigned to a missing persons case and get's caught up in the nightmare!

I expect this will take place on the estate, with at least another large in door area and some outside bits. The house we were in might only be a stopover to the main house, it looks much bigger in the trailer cut away so i'm not sure we were in THAT particular house.

No, it's a small cottage set in the midst of a huge plantation estate. There are other buildings, including a much-larger house to explore. There's plenty of opportunity for more traditional Resident Evil fare and the final environment will be similar, albeit bigger, than the whole Arklay estate of the first game.
Give the thing a chance.

Demo confirmed as a prequel to RE7's events.

So as a recap:
-This game is based out of the Kitchen VR Tech demo that Capcom presented last year -The demo is prequel to the actual game, which means that it takes place in the same "universe" with the "Family" and everything but those characters (Andre, Clancy) and that "ghost hunting show" have nothing to do with it. -The game is confirmed to be entirely on first person and VR compatible. -The full title outside Japan is "Resident Evil 7 Biohazard" with the RESIDENT EVII logo for the 7 and in Japan the logo is something like "Bioha7ard".
