I always have problems with him, too. I went from fine to danger in one hit one time that I played it. o_o

On topic: I found some complaints about CVX on gamespot forums, and I disagree with almost all of them:

- Bad pacing
- Design flaws (sudden characrter swiching, extinguisher in security box)
- Bland graphics
- Too dark
- The weapons suck
- Unremarkable story
- Bad characters (Steve, Alfred)
- Lack of replayability
- Backtracking
- Didn't include some gameplay improvements of RE3
- Stupid new enemies (bandersnatch)
- Wesker and Alexia and their super powers

I also disagree with all of them, but those are the reasons why some hate CVX. And the controls are the same as all the other old RE games, plus the camera moved with you and that made it easier for me.
