| Hello all. I've noticed that many people still seem to think that we only use 10% of our brains. As a psychology major, I really wish to inform everyone here that it is not true. We use 100% of our brains. Some may not do it well, but they do it nonetheless. Thank you for your time.

--Nite I thought it was only 15%? Did you just watch that movie with Robert DeNiro Nite? The one with that guy from The Hangover, where he takes a pill that allows him to use all of his brain? |

--Nite Also, where does this come from then? The whole, "We only use 10%"(possibly 15%)"...of our brains" saying come from then? |

| Where do most myths come from? The minds of incompetent people. This information may have come from very outdated research though. And I brought this up because a science teacher (A SCIENCE TEACHER) actually told Methsia that the myth was true. We have TEACHERS in this world, spreading blatantly false information to their students. That is ridiculous. And it really pisses me off. Big time. |

So.... We blame the public school system. Heck, I've been doing that way before this came up. Mainly because public schools generally suck and don't teach kids anything but socializing with other kids. Oh and that whole environmental mumbo jumbo. |

| Mercy, are you promoting private schools and homeschooling? Private schools have the same problems and homeschooling is just ridiculous. I would never hire a homeschooled person. Ever. |

| If I was in that position, I wouldn't. Some homeschooled people are just fine and very intelligent. But almost all the time, they are "taught" by their parents who have no business teaching anyone. Teachers should be licensed and schooled specifically for teaching. |

Right. I mean, they will be a little socially retarted....at the very least. I mean, obviously the social aspect is one of the biggest reasons for schools as they are. Yet teachers gripe for students socializing...?! |

| Socialization is an extremely important part of school. In fact, sociologists have terms for what school is meant for and does, and what school is not meant for, but does inadvertently. I can't remember the terms. |

What does it do inadvertently? |

| Well, some things are good about it. Like gaining the ability to socialize well, interacting with people of differing origins and beliefs, even something as small as being fed. Other things though, like learning about something from your teachers point of view, or instilling a certain local belief system (like being conservative or liberal), or even instilling a nationalistic perspective may not be so great. |

I guess everyone isn't as smart as the average bear. But, younger kids in general, are much more impressionable. I guess overall it balances out well enough. How about the Pros to homeschooling? Are there any... |

| Sometimes homeschooling is good. I mean, when the students have a credentialed teacher. Because this way, they are focused on. All the teacher's attention is on them, which makes for a better learning experience. But this rarely happens. Usually it's just the parent who teaches the child or the child just has to teach themselves from a book. |

| I've known a few homeschooled people. One was not intelligent and couldn't spell for his life. He just stopped doing his schooling when he was like...17 or 18 and tried telling me it was because he finished early. Later he told me he just quit. Then I knew a family who homeschooled their children. I dated one of them. There were all quite intelligent but fairly socially awkward. This family was highly religious and the parents were very very strict. The main reason for homeschooling the children was so the children were not "corrupted" by the public school system. They didn't want them to be exposed to the types of things public school children do...like break curfew I guess? They just thought all public school kids did drugs and broke the law and had tons of sex all the time. This family is the main reason I look down on religion and know the evil it can cause. Because these kids were homeschooled, they were not exposed to outside influences nearly enough and really the only things they knew about the world was what their parents brainwashed them into knowing. Which wasn't much. After they found out that I was dating their daughter, they kicked me out of the church. The daughter was so scared of them that she hid in our house the night she left them. (She told them she wanted to live on her own and they threw a fit and screamed at her. She was 18 at the time.) When she hid in our house, the parents came and called the cops in the hopes that the cops would force the girl back to them. Such ignorance. The cops basically said that "she was an adult and legally she can do what she wants, stop wasting our time." I work with a guy who was homeschooled and he seems perfectly normal and intelligent enough. I don't know him too well though. And he taught himself out of text books. |

| Gah! I can't stand overly religious people. They are the most ignorant people I know of and the slightest conversation with one makes me wanna punch something. |
