Silent Hill Saving - WTF!?!

I'm playing Silent Hill (PS1) for the first time, I got it off the playstation store. So far I'm really enjoying it, so earlier today I made it to the point where I have to fight the first boss, it's the weird split head boss, and I kept dying so I decided to take a break. 

I just went on about a few minutes ago and it started me all the way back to where I first entered the school. WTF? I was never given a save point between there and the boss. Now I have to spend another hour going through the school and the otherworld back to that point. UUUGGGHGHHHH!. 

Anyone have this problem? I never had the opportunity to save my game because I was never given a save point, this is so irritating!

There's plenty of save rooms in the school. I remember the first one being in the nurses office.

No autosave for oldschool games, sucka.

In any case, Ravior speaks the truth. There are plenty of save points in the school. Just try to locate all the white'n'blue notepads scattered around the level.

Oh, how I love this game. And yeah, as everyone already told you, there are many saves in between. Those red notebooks, you know?
