He seems exceedingly popular, yet I can't figure out why. I read the wiki article on him and there is plenty to like but I'm still not sure why he is so popular.

Because he's the Resident Evil universe's answer to Chuck Norris =P he carries a .357 revolver that he custom made, he has those infamous one liners that may be regarded as cheesy but that was a part of his character. His best buddies with Chris and John Kendo and not to mention....that awesome beard. And if you want to go deeper that entire comic segment he had in that hospital blowing the shit out of zombies and blowing the place sky high is something only Barry could do. Shame that nowadays he's just not in any game anymore like Rebecca =(

Dude you need to just finish REmake and get it over with. You'll be a fan of many characters once you're finished.
