*Help! Faulty Ps3 console problem

I was wondering if you guys could help me with this?

I've never heard or seen this problem before. You're best bet it to call Sony for support. Some say it's an over heating problem, others say it's the hdmi cables or the tv. I'm still checking around to see for any solutions. Although, if you're having problems turning off your PS3, then you should get your money back. I'll still be snooping around for answers.

Never seen that myself either. I was going to suggest to check all video settings from PS like ie refresh rate and if it's compatible with your TV, but problem with turning it on/off sounds more like electronics being fried from inside - or some brazing being loosely attached. However, did you try it with another TV ?
I wouldn't open it myself to check because drive (or the reader) can break quite easilly as it's pretty delicate. Either call Sony support as Jill Sandwich suggested, or take it to some game/electronic store for fix - or call few to ask if anyone had similiar problem with PS bought from them.

ok thank you guys. i havent ever seen this before either. just plugged it in for the first time and this happened. i will try calling sony. if there is no way to fix it then i will get a refund. oh and also, i have not tried a different tv, idk if its the same for all ps3s but my first 2 ps3s worked fine with the same tv. thanks for replying.

Yeah that is strange. I agree and would give Sony a call about it. Did you find any other forums or anything where that may have happened to someone else?

Yeah but just incase former owner changed some weird video/display settings, to make it work with some oldschool TV or something with different Hz. Not sure how it works but that window you got when it froze looks like something wrong refresh could do. But since on/off doesn't really work I bet its internal problem in PS.
You could always try to restore from [Settings] > [System Settings], then either [Restore Default Settings] if you have something important on your HD or [Restore PS3 System] to do the former + format your HD.
I doubt it's anything impossible to fix tho because your PS works from time to time, even if it's for short time. Maybe problem is in hard drive because it's something PS doesn't process immediately, but shortly after you put power on.

alright i will try all those suggestions. i will also try an old hard drive but idk if that old hard drive works because its in my old Ylod ps3, but i will try anyway. thanks

Weird. I've never seen that happen before.

I've never seen this before. I only got problem when my save files suddenly corrupt sometimes. You should consult Sony according this. Goodluck!

Xboxofbricks is much, much heavier than the Playstation 3. Both consoles are about the same in width though.

Blu ray for the win though. Sold my xbox because i tended to buy all my games for my old PS3.

Then my PS3 broke, rang sony, they sent me a brand new Slim model, took my old one and thats it. Didnt pay a penny and it wasn't in warranty.

I love sony.

Oh yeah I know, well apparently my friend thought it would be a halarious idea to throw his PS3 out of the second story window, and although it was beat to hell..it still worked.

But that's definitely why it's growing on me, I love my blu rays.

ok i have both and they've both got there pro's and cons. i prefer the ps3 but 360 is still good. but the only time i go on 360 is to play halo reach.
