Remember the cop at the barricade armed with an MP5 in the opening scene of RE3? He was more important than Ashley. So was the UBCS merc throwing grenades at zombies. The pilots of the UBCS helicopters, even though we never even see their faces, were more important than Ashley. Oh, and remember the dead Tyrant in the rail cannon room at the end of RE3? It was more important than Ashley, too.

Precisely. And she isn't even an RE character! There's a picture floating around the Internet of an Iraqi insurgent who had been shot in the head with a Barrett .50 caliber rifle (I'd recommend not searching this out if you're squeamish, because it isn't a pretty sight ) who's much more important than Ashley, too!
