On the GameFAQs RE2 board and some other RE fan sites there was a challenge run that was called something like the NIRO Challenge (the actual name might have been slightly different, but from what I remember it was NIRO.
NIRO/NIHO: No Infection, Realism Only/No Infection, Handgun Only.
(Both of these are done on the hardest difficulty obviously.)
NI: (No Infection) Attacks that could cause infection:-Zombie bite/vomit
-Cerberus bite
-Licker tongue lick
-Drain Deimos bite
-Adder worms bite
-Ivy/Spider acid/venom attack
-Etc. basically anything that could transfer the Virus from an enemy to the character means you have to start over from your last save.
Physical Attacks that are Allowed: -Nemesis punch/grab
-Hunter scratch
-Licker scratch
-Ivy tentacle slap
-Drain Deimos slash
-Bandersnatch grab
-Anything along that line.
RO/HO: (Realism Only/Handgun Only) Realism Only is exactly what the name implies. Basically from what I remember, it limited you to only things a normal civilian might encounter if they were stuck in Raccoon City. This means weapons like Grenade Launchers, Mine Throwers, Rocket Launchers, etc. are all out.
RO Rules:-Handgun/Shotgun/Magnum/Knife Only. No enhanced ammo. No GL/RL/MT/Flame Thrower/Etc.
-No ammo creation (RE3)
-Getting bitten = death.
-Optional: No upgraded weapons (No Eagle Parts, Handgun parts Shotgun parts, etc.)
-Optional: No Herbs. First Aid Sprays only.
I thought up some other challenges that, combined with other limitations/challenges, could really make passing the game difficult.
KO: (Knife Only)Self-explanatory.
KEE: (Kill Every Enemy)Any enemy you encounter must be dispatched before you can go on to the next room.
AR: (Always Run)Always run from enemies unless the game forces you to kill something.
ND: (No Damage)No Damage is allowed to be taken to your character. If you get hit or bitten, you must start over from last save.
OWO: (One Weapon Only)One Weapon Only at a time. This means you can't carry a Shotgun and Handgun at the same time.
YEI/REI: (Yellow Equals Infection/Red Equals Infection)If your character hits Yellow or Red health, it will mean they are infected and GAME OVER.
NH: (No Herbs)Only First-Aid Sprays allowed. This could theoretically go into RO as well.
ND: (No Dodging)Applies to RE3.
Is anyone wild enough to try these challenges? Have you tried any of them before?
I found my copy of RE3 today and will be starting a NIHOOWO RE3 run today.
Wish me luck.
