I love fighting games, so I'm making this thread for general discussion on them. What are your favorites and fondest memories? What do you think of the current "new age" of fighting games?
I must say that I wasn't too into them before and only fully jumped in when Street Fighter IV was released. Even though the game is furiously frustrating I loved it so much I just had to have more. Before that I had only been playing Mortal Kombat. Funny thing, I didn't like those games either at first but then I bought the hack n' slash MK game Shaolin Monks. Even if it wasn't a true fighing game (tho it still had versus mode) it brought me to the MK story and made me want to play more. Anyway, as I said, SFIV finally brought me to the full genre and now I have a load of fighting games old and new.
The first fighter (or brawler) I ever played was Digimon Rumble Arena. Oh man, that was a blast.
Hey, here's a pic of my current collection! It's missing my NeoGeo Battle Coliseum (I borrowed it to a friend) and has Jurassic Park Warpath which isn't mine.
Back row: Street Fighter Alpha and Street Fighter IV: Wages of Sin (manga), SFIV Collector's Edition (includes SFIV movie bluray, small art booklet and two figurines), BlazBlue: Calamity Trigger Limited Edition (includes a tutorial DVD and an artbook), Hyper Street Fighter II Anniversary Edition (a collection of all the SFII editions) The stuff in front: -DC: Soul Calibur and Power Stone -PS: Destrega, Digimon Rumble Arena, Pocket Fighter (loose) and Jurassic Park Warpath (not mine) -PC: Mortal Kombat 3 -PS2: SmackDown: Shut Your Mouth, DragonBall Z: Budokai Tenkaichi, Digimon Rumble Arena 2, MK: Shaolin Monks, MK: Deception, MK: Armageddon -PS3: King of Fighters XII (trying to sell it), MvC3, Mortal Kombat 9
-Downloaded titles: MUGEN (PC), Super Smash Land (PC), Street Fighter Alpha (PSN) and Guilty Gear (PSN).
Propably gonna sell SFIV and buy the Arcade Edition, same with MvC3 and the Ultimate Edition. Got it but still haven't sold the original MvC3.

I've never really been into fighters. I've heard that Tekken 3 is one of the best fighting games ever.
My favorite fighting game is Super Smash Bros. Melee if that counts. I've played that for over 200 hours with friends. Brawl is cool but just not the same. Barely played the N64 one. I've played a bit of MK (don't remember which one), SC for Dreamcast, SF2 and 4 and DoA 4, and it was pretty fun.

SSB counts. Technically it's a brawler but it's the same thing to me. About Tekken, I'm really looking forward to Street Fighter x Tekken.
It's looking awesome.
Btw. Remembered a fun story. I had once played a 3D fighting game called Destrega as a demo with my firend to no end. It was so awesome at the time we just couldn't get enough, even though the demo had only two characters and one stage. Years later I had forgotten the whole game existed but I just happened to notice a familiar title in some antiquarian shop on display. I really didn't think I would ever stumble upon it so I immediatley bought it and completed the story the same night.

I'm thinking brawler is the same as what I call a 'beat-em-up'?
How I miss those type of games. So much fun in my early teenage years.
I'm talkin about games like Streets Of Rage, Vandetta, Ninja Turtles Arcade, Alien Storm, Battle Toads, Double Dragon, Golden Axe, Final Fight, Shinobi...I'm sure I've missed a good one there somewhere.
As for fighters...same things. I love all the oldies like Street Fighter and Mortal Kombat. I used to live on these type of games. Tekken was the next step forward for me. I played a lot of Tekken 2,3,4. I still bust out a bit of Street Fighter 2 on my Capcom Classics for PS2.
Ever played Shaq-Fu? it was actually an ok fighter when it first came out lol

I've always used it on games like SSB and Digimon Rumble Arena. Apparently, by wiki definition, it's a beat-em-up but I still prefer to call them as such.
Beat-em-ups sure are a lot of fun. My favorite from the genre is Double Dragon 2. I even made an LP for it
Haven't played Shaq Fu but I have him from the game in my MUGEN. I've heard that Shaq Fu was horrible but it looks good if you ask me.
@Godzilla: Is MKM: SZ any good? I thought of buying it once. Btw. I hate Kahn's X-Ray, it does so much damage

MKM:SZ is like the RE survivor of mortal kombat. most fans hate it but i love it. its a fun story mode eventho ive never beaten it. theres really not much to say about it but alot of people hate the N64 version which is why i wanna buy it lol
check out this review of the 64 version with gameplay, this made me on the floor laughing
you hate shao kahns x ray beacuse of the damage? then you'll hate kintaros x ray, it takes up 53% of your health, kahns takes up 52% lol

Dude, it's only a one percent difference But yeah, his is unfair too.
I liked Shaolin Monks, even though I've heard most fans hate it too. Have you tried it? It's a great game.

I played it co-op with my friend. Good times. After we finished it and unlocked Scorpion and Sub-Zero in the story mode we got about half way on the second playthrough.

There's a new and pretty interesting looking fighting game coming up:
Some of the characters remind me of Guilty Gear.

Ha! Replaced the old trailer with a brand new, extended one. Enjoy!
I just added Ultimate MvC in my collection. I have yet to try the new Heroes and Heralds mode but it seems pretty interesting.
Oh, and I downloaded Super Smash Land. It's a freeware GB version of the Super Smash games

There's a huge Street Fighter collection coming up from Capcom! It's called Street Fighter 25th Anniversary Collector's Set and it's really similar to the Resident Evil 15th Anniversary Collection you might remember from a while back. Now, while the RE collection never made it outside of Japan I really, really, REALLY hope that this one gets an international release because it would be the best way to get all of the SF games. Well, all but the first.
The set will be priced at $149.99 which I think is a rather reasonable price for it and will be released on September 18th.
The set will include
Super Street Fighter 2 Turbo HD Remix
Street Fighter 3: 3rd Strike Online Edition
Super Street Fighter 4 Arcade Edition (with all costume DLC)
Street Fighter X Tekken (including all character and Swap Costume DLC)
Two-disc Blu-Ray video set including a documentary on the series' history, the Street Fighter 4 and Super Street Fighter 4 Anime movies, episodes of the Street Fighter animated series, and Street Fighter 2: The Animated Movie
8" light-up Ryu statue
11 discs of soundtrack music
64 page hardback art book
Ryu's belt replica
Certificate of authenticity

That's a freaking labor of love to all Street Fighter fans. Why couldn't they do the same for Resident Evil?

I'm aware of this, I was just looking more forward to a more global release for one of their top selling franchises.
