Has anyone watched Black Summer on Netflix? It's a series chronicling the early days of a zombie apocalypse and the name is derived from an event mentioned in Z Nation. In fact, the producers even claim that the two shows are in the same universe, but I have a hard time swallowing that due to Black Summer being much more serious (akin to The Walking Dead) and totally lacking any of Z Nation's comedic and parody elements.

Regardless of its connections to Z Nation, it's really good.

I really liked it alot. I always love seeing the first few hours/days of an outbreak. So getting a series dedicated to that was refreshing. The post zompocalypse is great too, but i feel like we've been getting alot of that recently.

I had no idea it had a possible connection to ZNation. (which i haven't seen yet) But from what i know they seem worlds! apart.

It's a really night and day difference between them, so it's hard to swallow them occupying the same universe. Z Nation was only really good in its first season, but the subsequent seasons continually started getting more and more absurd as they progressed (I spoke about this in a post in the Walking Dead topic), even for what was essentially a parody. But if you're looking for a zombie show that doesn't take itself seriously, Z Nation is going to fit the bill for you.

I agree about the first hours/days of an apocalypse like this, watching as law and order breaks down and the authorities slowly lose control. But most of the time, though, it gets watered down to make it softer and less unpleasant for overly-sensitive viewers and effectively make it out to be one big party. I blame it on the PC crowd who wants us to forget that bad people do bad things.

I will check it out. I am watching season 4 of Fear the Walking Dead, up to the episode where John first meets Naomi.

She's really an alien cyborg from Venus whose real name is Martha, meaning if you say it near Batman and Superman, they'll both lose their shit.

No, don't worry, that's not true. Razz

Or is it? scratch

So, how are the two series connected? Is this set before the other series? I think they should have continued the show. Ratings are a buzz killer though.

According to the producers, Black Summer is a prequel to Z Nation and the time period depicted in the former is the same "black summer", a time of extreme drought and dwindling resources that resulted in a lot of deaths, that was mentioned throughout the latter.
