We have several members here who I doubt would fit into the same clique in real life however.

So? This is still a clique. And those cliques exist everywhere. Even in small African tribes, you have the elders, the property owners, children, and women.

Cliques are cliques. And they are taken WAY more seriously in African tribes. I just don't see what evidence you can possibly have for America containing an inordinate proliferation of cliques.
