Now that the new RE movies is out I thought that we should talk about other game movies too. What have you seen and what are your thoughts about them. Share dammit!
Silent Hill movie is awesome and propably the best video game movie ever. I've talked about it enough on these forums so I'll just leave it at that
Doom movie was propably the second best. That or Hitman. They both had a good story for the movie, great action scenes and overall made me wanna play more Doom is good but I'm not much of a Hitman fan though... Max Payne movie was ok too, but I never played the first game so I can't compare it with the game.
I just watched Forbidden Siren and it was great (it's apparently based on Siren 2). Now I'm just waiting to see this:
This looks so f'd up it has to be good
How about some fighting game based movies? I have yet to watch Tekken, DoA, Art of Fighting, Fatal Fury movies, Samurai Shodown movies and the live action Street Fighter movies. I'm not waiting too eagerly to see the latter since the four animated SF movies were AWESOME and these are said to be bad :/ Mortal Kombat movies were all great in my opinion, no matter what they say. I have four of them but I'm pretty sure Conquest and Devastation are just adaptations of the live action series... Oh, and I really hope this is real:
What else is there... I'm going to get Halo Legends and Prince of Persia. Anyone seen Dead Space: Downfall? I loved it even though I know nothing about the games Then there's the Super Mario Bros. It's weird, doesn't relate much and doesn't make much sense but I remember it from my childhood and think quite fondly of it. I don't think much of the Tomb Raider movies... Only seen the first one though.
Wait! How could I have forgotten! The Final Fantasy movies! Spirits within doesn't have anything to do with any of the games but damn, it's a riot! I still like Advent Children better though. The animated shorts are great too.

Have you ever played the games? What particularly made the movie so bad to you, it was a really good movie in my opinion.

I liked it as well but was a bit put off at the end by the different time zone and four silent hills etc very fucked up but i dont know much about the storyline for the game tbh.

I think Silent Hill is one of the best videogame movies there is. That's sad...

Doom.... I remember going into that movie trashed off of about 4 pitchers of budwieser. It was so bad, I was sober 30 minutes in. Silent Hill was probably the most tolerable of any I've seen. The absolute worst were House of the Dead and Alone in the Dark. Damn Uwe Bowl.

The only good movie he has ever made was the latest of his work Rampage.

Doom was a bit weak...it did have some good parts from the games but it just didnt have the feel of Doom to it

Because the best videogame based movie should probably be the best movie period. Ever.
Ever.

The problem is that they always try to mass market the movies by changing up the story, characters, etc... If they would just stick to what is already established they could make GREAT movies out of video games. That wouldn't make them as much money tho so they alienate the hardcore fans by putting out some watered down mass idiot friendly movie.

To bad they just keep screwing up the movies... I still liked the DOOM movie though. It just kind of appealed to me.
Btw. Has anyone seen Prince of Persia yet? I just ordered it on DVD.

Why would it not make them as much money? It would obviously make them more money if they stuck to the game...It makes no sense. They're idiots.

Because they want it to appeal to a wide variety of people. They probably won't make one that would just appeal to the fans of the game for fear of not making as much money. I just wish they would realize that when they do water it down or make it more appealing to people who don't know the game it just pisses the fans off and no one goes to see it anyway.

That still makes no sense. How would making a movie that directly follows the videogame make it less appealing to regular viewers? Does making a movie directly follow a book make it less appealing to anyone? I think not.

I agree, it makes no sense, but if you make a movie based on a video game for the fans of the game, I'm sure a lot of people not familiar with the game just wouldn't get it. Other than that... It's Hollywood, does anything ever make sense?

I shall now worship you as a false demigod. If that even makes sense.
On the actual point, why wouldn't other people watch them? I mean if they just told the original story instead of furthering it random people wouldn't even see the difference.
