Capcom trademarks "Umbrella Corps"

About a week ago Capcom filed a trademark for something called "Umbrella Corps". Honestly it could be anything, a new IP even, but seeing as it is Capcom there is a chance for it to be something Resident Evil related. I just hope it isn't something that will whisk us back in 1998 again...

I honestly have no clue what the idea is for trademarking the name. It could be for use in the final Resident Evil movie? I don't see why it would be used in the games, but that is always a possibility. It could also be for some form of theme park attraction for this coming year. They have been big about promoting at amusement parks over the past few years (IE: Six Flags re6 promotions, Raccoon City haunted course in Disney World, the RE restaurant and the RE haunted house). Maybe they are planning on doing it again this year and maybe even selling merch under that brand.

We really have to ask what Capcom would gain from trademarking Umbrella Corps. Why?

Whatever the reason, they're going to do something with it. Hopefully they do something really cool cause Teh Spike's interest with RE has been minimal. Getting Claire, Barry and Alex all in the same game, a sequel to one of the coolest newer RE games, REvelations 2, still hasn't been enough motivation to sit down and play through that god forsaken story mode.

Whats with the confusion about them filing a trademark? Game companies do this all the time.

A new CG film would be much appreciated

With a name like that it could be about Neo-Umbrella or something.

Then again, I think they are going to keep with the Ds.

Think about it. UMBRELLA CORPS.

CORPS. is the keyword.

It's totally going to be an RE6 sytle military shooter. RE6 and RE5 did sell well (5-6 million copies each) while the HD remake sold 1+ million. Everything about this screams "umbrella officers in black "hunk" suits with guns going around doing missions at various other outbreaks around the world". That way they can release Resident Evil games for both the survival horror lovers (REZero remaster, RE2 remake) and the shooter lovers (RE4, RE5, RE6, RE:Umbrella Corps)

I honestly wouldn't mind that, sounds like fun. Though I wonder how they'd implement anything Umbrella in the series anymore, unless it's like, set before the series even began. Now that I think about it it sounds even more interesting.

Teh Spike takes this back, it doesn't need to be in english. Japanese with English subtitles will suffice, but if they do record in English that would be fine too.

@Voltius, that seems a tad presumptious, when you consider that the theory is based at least mostly on a single word, "CORPS". However, it could indeed be a fun idea. Especially olif there is a 4 person cooperative "campaign " experience. Like so many of us were led to believe before ORC came out.
