What do you think about the DOOM games? They helped invent the FPS genre and are still fun to play to this day. Just thought I make this so we can talk about the series or just talk about anything DOOM related. My favorite game in the series is DOOM 2 by the way.

My favorite is still the original. I also like the Wolfenstein series.
I have Doom95 on my computer, it's some awesome entertainment every now and then. Plutonia is pure hell, though. I couldn't finish it, not even with IDDQD.
I also have all the Doom and Wolfenstein RPGs on my cellphone. They were way better than I ever expected and I really enjoyed all of them.
I have to mention, though, I've never played the newer games.

Yeah I really enjoy the Wolfenstein Games too, I have Wolfenstein 3D and the sequal Sear of Destiny on Steam and they were loads of fun to play.

It's not really that different from the first game, but it's still alot of fun.

Doom is my all time favorite video game series. That and Metal Gear. IT is what got me into gaming way back in the 90's. It was absolutely amazing

That game is not easy. It is not Plutonia and TNT levels of difficult either, but it is not easy. I wish Nintendo would port it to the Wii U or something. That would make my life better.
Also...the PSone version of Doom is great, too

I only made it to the 10th level in Doom 64, it is dark as shit. And I still have yet to play the PS1 port of the first Doom.

IT is very similar to the PC version in a lot of ways,. In a lot of other ways, it is not. It removes some of the tougher enemies (like the archvile). It adds in some levels and takes away others, but the real additions to it. The ones that make it special are the soundtrack and the new lighting effects. IT ads a new atmospheric soundtrack that is haunting. All of the sound effects are redone to sound creepier. Guns sound beefed up and the lighting effects add a nice touch of ambience.

Basically yeah. The PSone version has more of a horror atmosphere. IT feels similar to Quake in that regard. OF course, the Quake feeling of horror extends to the look o the enemies and environments, too. A lot of it is very Lovecraftian in nature, which is awesome. Quake is such an amazing game as well.

When I get enough money I am going to get a lot of games on Steam, and Quake shall be one of them.

I rented Doom 3 on Xbox some years back after seeing the movie, but didn't care for it. I respect its accomplishments in the gaming world, but it was too fast-paced for me. Definitely scary, though.

Fast paced? interesting. It is slower paced than the original Doom. Then again,. all shooters back then were fast as fuck

I always took my time when playing Doom 3, mainly because it was dark as fuck, almost as dark as Doom 64.

Doom 64 is pretty dark, and you do not have a damned flash light. I love the game, though. I love the reworked sound effects and the new sound track. I, also, love the vastly improved graphics

I know very little about the Doom series other than it has been around for quite some time. I played 1 game back in the mid to early 90s. I don't remember much at all, but for some reason back then it made me think of Predator. I don't even remember which system it was on.
One of my friends had a more recent game for the xbox and what I saw looked really good. The sound and lighting were done really well.

I would highly recommend playing the entire Doom series. They are all good. With Doom, Doom 2 and Final Doom, you have hte option of playing sourse ports that add a bunch of modern touches such high resolution graphics, open GL support, dynamic lighting, fog effects, mouse support and the ability to crouch and jump (which are useless in the game, but it is cool that they are there).

I may just give it a go after I finish my run back through the RE series. Doom did do a lot for the gaming industry; I would not mind putting a little time into it! I would actually like to play the games on the original consoles when I do get around to it or perhaps the PC depending on what's out there.

PC is the original "console" for Doom games Pretty much every single one aside from Doom 64 and Doom RPG.
