Resident Evil May Be Getting A Television Series: "Arklay"

According to new reports, a company is developing a TV series based off of Resident Evil. It's titled "Arklay". The show is said to delve into the mysterious homicides of Raccoon City.

Here is the show's pitch:
“When Detective James Reinhardt is thrust into a series of bizarre homicides, he unravels the city is hiding a dark conspiracy. Learning a fatal virus is connected to it all, Reinhardt discovers it’s already coursing through him. With time no longer on his side, he must solve the conspiracy to save his own life.“

And here I thought it was good to be an RE fan back in 2012 when we got three completely new games, the Chronicles HD Collection and two movies Now we're getting an HD port of Remake (and hopefully Zer0, fingers crossed!) and a TV series?! I mean, throw in a movie or a tie-in or something and we're on a 2012 scale of awesome.

Could be interesting.

This could either go great or bad, I like the fact that it isn't based on the video game, BUT if they fall in the mistake the movies made and start mixing the video game with the series story, then it could be shitty.

I'll give it a shot when it comes out but I'm keeping my expectations low.

Oh boy...If this show airs, i'll just have to hope that it is any good. I hope there are no people flying on wires.

I liked the pitch video for the series. The clips they used set up a very good tone for the show, so I'm mean it could turn out to be pretty good!

Would be interesting to see a detective show about an RPD detective catching onto all of the conspiracy and trying to solve it, giving nods and Easter eggs to the games. Of course no one would believe him and he would die in the end :p

So I looked up this guy on IMDB, and here he is.

He hasn't worked on much, and anything big he worked on, he was a PA or a Grip, playing bit roles in short films. I'm sure this guy wants to be in the film industry, but I doubt this will ever come to fruition without a little more experience under his belt. If it is, chances are he won't be the one manning the project.

It sounds too much like the Gotham television series, even the name of the series reflects that. I just don't see it happening.

I'm not saying that, I still stand by my initial statement that he's too inexperienced. Clearly he won't be working on it alone if it gets greenlit, but I doubt that it will.

Also, that wasn't the point of my last post, Arklay's premise is pretty much Gotham in Resident Evil Universe. What makes this guy think that Resident Evil will be more popular than Batman? The ratings would tank by comparison. The company he's pitching to wouldn't take that chance.

Resident Evil is Jill, Chris, Barry, and Wesker going into a mysterious mansion to seek shelter after their heli crashes while searching for Bravo team.
If it's some random guy with a completely new plot then it has very little to do with Resident Evil other than zombies.

Sounds a lot like he is trying to get name recognition but not trying in any way to emulate the thing he is getting his name from(see the live adaptions of Resident Evil with Alice).

Resident Evil is also Leon, Ada and Claire going into Raccoon City, a private detective named Ark Thompson going to investigate a random island and two silly BSAA operatives getting bombed in Finland. It's not like the only true and acceptable RE story is the original one.

There is a lot of the Resident Evil universe that could be fleshed out for the series. There was a whole police force we barely were introduced too. Would be kinda neat if the protagonist ran into Kevin from out break at some point though heh...

I am sure it would not take much for someone with decent knowledge on the series to come up with a good story in the universe that didn't involve our main stream heroines/heroes. Not saying that ~will~ happen.. but one can be hopeful if the project happens at all.

All he has to do to make me flip my shit is if he kills Barry. I'll send the Tyrant T-103. Although, the last time I did that was with Paul Anderson, and it is pretty obvious that failed...

I doubt they'd be aiming to mess with the storyline nor do I think there'd be any existing characters seen, apart from maybe cameos.

I think they should at least use some of the named RPD officers like Marvin Branagh and Brian Irons, though.

Totally agree with this. Irons would make for a good antagonist for the series. There is a lot they could do to please (or displease) fans with a running series. If it does come to fruition I will be interested to see which route they take probably as much as I am interested in the actual entertainment of the show itself.

No. No! NO!!! Just... no. Making a Resident Evil series at this time is a BAD idea. With the state the games are in, with how moronic the makers are in thinking that we love the new stuff, just no! The series should be allowed to rest in peace, if just for a short while.

If they make a damn series, then they'll want to reboot the movies. The movie'll be a piss-poor adaption of the game, with the makers saying that it's the coolest thing ever. The sequels will continue to piss on the games more and more, culminating in the movie that the producers think we want most. They movie they think we'll be overjoyed with. Resident Evil 4. They'll say again that they're doing it with respect for the games, but in the meanwhile they'll be getting some douchey writer to write the script in his own excrement and they'll call it a labor of love. Okay, I'll chill. But nothing in the world will make me express any faith in it. For me, the Resident Evil franchise died when 4 was released. That was when everything went to hell, and every announcement since then has only make the wounds worse for me. I grew up loving the old games, and am appalled to see what they've become. The only reason I can accept Anderson's movies is that he doesn't lie or have any blissful ignorance about what he's doing. One thing's for sure, if it does get made, I'll most probably hate it. If it doesn't, then hallelujah.
