| Thank you for your question. Hopefully you will stick around and join in on our little community here, I'm sure you will enjoy. Now down to business! First off I would like to say I feel for you man, Resident Evil 5 also gave me some problems when I first got it for PC. Games for Windows live is a ridiculous DRM service, totally pointless, they should have just stuck to steam as their client.
Right first things first I would like to ask a question and also tell you a little more information on your problem. Have you set up an account for games for windows live ? If so did you receive any log in problems with it ? If you can answer they questions then it will help me try to solve you issue better.
I personal don't have windows 8 for the simple reason that it's terribly configured for gaming, yes it's a stellar and fast OS but for gaming it's a big flop, until they start giving out more support and frequent patch updates. I know from a good number of people that have games that are under the "games for windows live" service say they cannot sync up or even log in/ create user accounts when running windows 8, I can't tell you why that is but Microsoft have not got around to patching it.
They have also cancelled (not fully as of yet, I think) their "games for windows live" service and are slowly but surely porting over to steam as their client, which is actually pretty beneficial as it will allow better support, patches, user created patches etc. Not that this will be needed as steam games tend to run perfect from the get go and you wont have to go through the trouble of creating a "GFWL" account as steam will link it to their cloud service that they have in place. Now I'm not sure when Resident Evil 5 will be fully put over to Steam (not to buy but actually running within steams library) or how it will work out, like if you can just like play and it will load or if you will get a steam notification telling you of changes etc. If this is the case then I'm afraid since the "GFWL" service is closed down then there is nothing that can be done just now, just have to wait till steam gets it implemented onto their systems. I will dig up more information to make sure the queries I mentioned above are addressed properly. Until then if you can please answer my questions that I have asked, then that will be great.
P.S - I will also scour the net to see if there is some modified patches out there that will allow you to save your game.
