Why Resident Evil and not Biohazard?

Not sure if this topic's been discussed before ^^ but I've been wondering why did they change the name from Biohazard to Resident Evil for outside Japan releases? I think the name Biohazard sounds better.... Cool

There's a band in the US with a copyright on that name.

But if you translate the English "Resident Evil" into Japanese, then back translate the result into English, it translates to "Biohazard". Smile

So kinda like Evil Residents = Biohazard in Japanese then? (ok maybe not *facepalm*) Laughing

I the title only really fits the first game, since you're a "resident" if an "evil" mansion.

William was infected with the G-virus, and I think that was what Hunk was after.
