You know, I feel this mode is due a name change. It was called "Mercenaries" in RE3 because all of the playable characters were, in fact, actually mercenaries. But Jill Valentine isn't a mercenary. Chris Redfield isn't a mercenary. Claire Redfield isn't a mercenary. Hunk may get "styled" as one, but because he was trained by Umbrella as part of the USS, he isn't by technical definition a mercenary.
None of these characters are at all mercenaries in any way, so calling it "Mercenaries" makes no sense at all. It's like making a game about the US Marines, but calling it "US Army".

They did use other types of mini games using different titles, Extreme Battle Game and Battle Game before too. They could have gone with that. It just became recognizable after RE4.

In RE3 mercs, operation mad jackal, there was a line there "they have forgotten what fear and survival mean" .. true they aren't mercenaries but they have the power and guts to become one in the deadly battlefield killing and killing

Do you even know what a mercenary is?

Tell me which of these definitions Jill, for example, falls under.
all i know is that a mercenary is a person who takes part in an armed conflict, like a soldier but i didn't know about the reward stuff... hmm, i guess you are right

Mercenaries and soldiers aren't the same thing, no.

I don't think the characters personality or what they truly are in the story really matters in Mercs. It's like an alternate reality, where even Chris and Wesker can team up. Maybe in this universe they are all mercenaries.

Pelaaja magazine gave the game 5/10.
Here's a review of the game from Classic Game Room:

Mini game into a whole game? Yeah, thirty. I don't even care. That's reasonable. Maybe even twenty. Heck, anything more than eight.
Seriously, RE5 is an entire game. Mercs was a mini game in RE5. It had more characters even without the DLC.
When I first saw this game, I was really expecting there to be a ton of characters. I mean, that's rational right?

It is. They should've at least used every Mercs character used before. Out of both RE4 and RE5 (counting Reunion) that would've made it already 12 characters. Add Claire who was introduced in 3D and that would already make it 13 characters! Then add Carlos, who already was in RE3 mercs and the count is 14! How hard could that have been? Why not add Nicholai from that game too, the game needs more playable bad guys AND he's still alive.
