| Although now that I think about it, an island chain dominated by pirates and drug runners within pleasure boating distance of the US coastline might not be believable in a post-9/11 setting. |

Did that ever happen in the GTA universe anyway? GTA IV made frequent mentions of terrorists (Niki: "Why don't you show me around the city?" Roman: "Fucking terrorists!") and a political add on one of the radio stations mentions "tragic events that befell our city a few years ago" (the 9/11 attacks or an in-universe equivalent) and that the politician being slandered in it "wants to end the War on Terror". Additionally in TBOGT, Luis blows up a yacht where arms dealers are peddling an attack helicopter to prospective customers. |
