It's funny how the only thing this game is mentioned online for most of the time, is these hilarious mods. Not that the game itself was by any means terrible, but it was hardly the masterpiece that it should have been.
Personally, I have to just think of it as a general survival horror game as opposed to a remake of a classic. It's hard to overlook its multiple flaws, but it's not as bad of a remake as say, Silent Hill: Shattered Memories, which just had the original Silent Hill's basic premise of Harry Mason being in the town, but you didn't use guns or do anything aforetypical of the genre. You basically ran away, and used a cellphone, so it was about avoiding the creatures and never once does he fight any of them.
At least Capcom is starting to favour horror over action again. I never felt like RE4's Leon at all, which was a good thing. Still: I find in general, that it's not one of my personal favourites in the franchise. Now there's rumours that the RE3: Nemesis remake could release as soon as next year.
