Alien Isolation is a survival horror game!?!? Get hype!!!

Yeah yeah, Alien games have a terrible track record but this one looks promising. You play as Ripley's daughter, set a year after the events of the first Alien movie, trying to figure out what happeneing to her mother. Here's a full breakdown...

If she dies at the end, it's either non-canon, or provides information that Ripley's "Daughter" seen in Aliens (who died at 70 something) wasn't really her. Also expanding on the lore that a certain company is ridiculously corrupt.

From my understanding, this story has already been told in the novels/comics. So, it's 100% canon.

Such a bold new direction for Aliens, this looks absolute terrifying.

This looks like it will be kind of like Aliens meets outlast type of horror, something I would be
very interested in playing.
However colonial Marines was such a MASSIVE let down that I will keep my hype away
until this style of gameplay and graphical aesthetics can be fully confirmed, I will never let my guard down after what happened with Colonial Marines.
I was too lazy to sit through all the commentary so can I be lazy and ask, is this the same
company that developed Colonial Marines or a different team or an entirely different IP altogether?

That's what they said about Colonial Marines. Even the original trailers for that seemed awesome but it turned out they had nothing to do with the final product.

I'd refrain my hype just in case.

Gearbox made Colonial Marines, this one seems to be developed by a company called The Creative Assembly. Never heard of them before, just checked on Wikipedia. In any case, they seem to be a subsidiary of Sega.

EDIT: Further inspection on Wikipedia reveals that they are the minds behind the Total War series. Kind of weird to see them suddenly jump into horror.

EDIT;EDIT: They seem to have had something to do with Shadow of the Beast. Nevertheless, the technology and what you'd call "horror" has changed quite a bit since 1989.

Looks interesting,but I'm not really into horror games set in space. I'm gonna pass on this one.

Also, take note of how I said, "The right to be God", becauss thats how it is stated in RE5. He does not say, " The right to be a God".

I'm curious about it myself. I love all the Alien movies. The crossover films with Predator aren't very good, though, and I heard the games are terrible, but I'm prepared to give this one a chance.

The crossovers and Predator 2 never happened; Prometheus made everything featuring either the possibilities of Aliens existing or flat out Aliens non-canon due to certain...things...

Guys, this game is freaking awesome! I'm only about 10-15% deep into the campaign but I'm enjoying the ride so far.

There is no hand holding in this game. All you get is a shoddy map and a objective. Everything else you have to figure out yourself. No waypoints, no guides, no checkpoints, no advice from some no-it-all, nothing. On the hard difficulty(which is the recommended difficulty) this sh#t is brutally tough. The Alien is extremely unforgiving. Once he sees you: game over. His movement is random but his spawn points aren't. He'll always be in the area that you are in. I find it pretty "convenient" that on this gigantic ship, the Alien just so happens to be roaming around in all the areas I am in. Despite that, the game does place him in different areas each time. He could be roaming aimlessly, crawling in the air ducts or even be in the room right next to you. He's never in the same place twice, so each time you die, the game changes the Alien's placement. This is why the motion tracker is your best friend.

The game's item management system is similar to TLOU. Obtain blueprint on item, find pieces for it, then craft it. You can craft things like Molotov's, noise makers, emp mines, smoke bombs, health injections. There are weapons in the game. So far I only have the revolver(completely useless against the Alien). I like how you have to load each bullet into the revolver while reloading instead of the game just automatically doing it for you in one animation.

The other threats in this game are the idiotic humans roaming around the ship and the synthetics. Getting into fights with these guys isn't a good idea because they are pretty difficult to kill the running around and gun shots will attract the Alien to your location.

My biggest gripe with this game is the framerate. The Alien's movement gets choppy when he's at a distance and the game sometimes chugs when the Alien is killing people in the background. I'm playing on the PS3 but I also heard these problems exist on the PS4 as well.

All in all, this game is a true survival horror experience that's not going to satisfy everyone. The emphasis is place on using your wits rather than weapons to progress. You will also die a lot ......like seriously.......a lot, but I never felt that cheated. I either went too fast, wasn't aware of my surroundings or simply just f#%ked up and the game punished me for it. It forced me to learn the layout of the area and come up with a different gameplan. Completing a section after dying +30 times felt gratifying, a feeling that I don't get from games anymore. If you're a fan of the classic Alien movies and enjoy a uniquely challenging game, I recommend giving this a shot.

That sense of gratification you mentioned, I got that same feeling today when I beat the final boss of RE Dead Aim today on like my 16th try.

Back to Alien Isolation, I am glad to hear it is punishing! I really want to give it a try, but I will probably not make a purchase until it is for sale on Steam. I enjoyed the original 2 Alien movies very much.

Its not that really scary from what i have seen, but from what i have seen it looks hella fun and im glad the alien is random, so you never know.
