What does the G in G-Virus stand for?

I read on some website that it stood for "Gene Virus" but there was no source to back that up. Does anyone know what the "G" in "G-virus" stands for?

I do not know what the G truly stands for. Based on the biologically effects it has on the body though, "Gene Virus" is a pretty good deduction.

It is pretty plausible, here are some sites that may provide some good info.

There's a part on the second site where it mentions the following:

"Should the host be of a complementary genetic similarity to the parasite - generally through identical blood groups, as with William and his daughter, Sherry - then a bond between the two will form, leading to the host's assimilation by the parasite, and subsequent mutation into a creature perhaps comparable to the first "G". To date, this occurrence has not been recorded as having happened due to the rarity of G-Virus usage. The only successfully-implanted host with a DNA match - Sherry Birkin - was saved from assimilation by the experimental G-Vaccine, codenamed DEVIL, before mutation could occur with help from her mother, Annette, and Claire Redfield."

So pehaps G standing for Gene would be pretty likely due to the fact that it happened to be the only successful implantation with the same DNA. Genes.

Project Umbrella says that it stands for "God Virus". Unfortunately they didn't cite that particular fact, although they have access to a lot of supplemental material and developer interviews so I just take their word for it. The fact that the G vaccine is called Devil kind of hints at it though.

Isn't it the most obvious choice, though.

Ah. Teh Spike went back to check Wesker's Report II. Nothin', Teh Spike can't remember where he read that. If anywhere. But it's definitely not what Project Umbrella or RE Wiki said. Wonder if it actually says anywhere. Teh Spike owns both Archives encyclopedias, and all the games (minus Survivor 2: Code Veronica for Ps2)so it may be worth taking a look. For Science!!

T = Tyrant Virus
G= God Virus
