It is a little slow, but I loved the RPG elements to it when fighting enemies.

You would be surprised by Survivor and Dead Aim. Those games are pretty good. Steer clear of Survivor 2, though. Oh yeah, and they're all fully canon, too.
Gaiden is hit and miss but personally, I loved the game. Ah, well I've heard conflicting opinions about them. I'm aware they're canon, but I've just never had an urge to play them. If they're worth checking out, I'll maybe see if I can hunt them down. |

Alternatively you can just play them on emulator, especially Gaiden as even a 10 year old PC can run the GBC emulator lol.

| Not counting Outbreaks and Gaiden, it's ORC. Or Gun Survivor. It's bad. I even disliked it when I was a kid. |
